Authentic luxury Journeys capturing the spirit, culture, and landscapes of a nation

Travel in Jordan offers authentic luxury travel experiences in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, a country forming part of the Holy Land, sacred to the three great monotheistic religions: Christianity, Islam, and Judaism.

Understanding the History of Jordan

Jordan is a peaceful nation with a rich and distinctive history. It was part of the Roman Empire, a land of crusaders during the Middle Ages. It was under Ottoman rule until the Great Arab Revolt in 1916.

Lawrence of Arabia resided here during the First World War and took part in the liberation of Aqaba from the Turks.

The Emirate of Transjordan became a British Protectorate until 1946, when the country gained full independence as the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

With a population of nearly twelve million, the majority religion is Sunni Islam. There is a vibrant and integrated Christian minority comprising 3% to 5% of the people, mainly Orthodox.

Though there are also Catholic and Protestant communities. Jordan is a safe country and Jordanians are proud of its prevailing internal harmony and of being a centre of regional security.

Jordan is a constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary system elected by universal suffrage, in which His Majesty King Abdullah II plays an important unifying role. There are seats in the Jordanian Parliament reserved for Christians and for women.

Bordering Saudi Arabia to the south, Syria to the north, and Palestine to the west, Jordan lies along the Dead Sea, and at the Port of Aqaba on the Red Sea.

Over the past three thousand years, God showed Moses the Promised Land from Mount Nebo.  Jesus was baptised at Bethany Beyond the Jordan, and both Romans and Turks left their marks. There is peace with the State of Israel. Times of conflict have passed.

Jordan Travel History

Today, Jordan welcomes more than five million visitors each year. It is a friendly and hospitable nation with high standards of education, medical care, and infrastructure.

Over the last half-century, Jordan has played a central role in the Middle East peace process. It enjoys good relations with its neighbours and the broader international community.

The country also plays a key humanitarian role in the region, offering a haven and refuge for those displaced by war and conflict, particularly from Iraq, Palestine, and Syria. Amman, the capital, hosts numerous diplomatic missions and international organisations.

It is a hub of diplomatic activity and home to many large embassies, most notably from Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

According to the US Embassy’s LinkedIn page, “it is one of the fast growing missions and… is among the top seven largest in the world”.

Safe, yet exotic, Jordan provides the backdrop for authentic adventures for discerning travellers especially if taken in smaller groups with experts who know how to keep the Journey authentic and beyond a mere holiday.

Wrapping Up – Travel in Jordan

Travel in Jordan’s experience is that its intrepid explorers are as diverse as Jordan itself, brought together by a shared desire to trace our human story in one of the world’s most beautiful and complex regions. Journeys range from seven days to two weeks.

You may wish to unwind and rejuvenate at the Dead Sea, the Hot springs of Ma’in, or at the Red Sea beaches at Aqaba.

Yet many visit Jordan for rugged adventure in national parks with magical scenery and open desert, to explore ancient history (and Jordan has seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites), and to enjoy moments of contemplation in places where Moses and Jesus once trod.

Whatever your quest, you will enjoy Jordan’s captivating diverse culture, and glorious cuisine with superb local wines from the vineyards in the north of the country.

Jordan, boasting excellent travel connections to Europe and North America, has all this to offer and more!

We had a wonderful week’s holiday with Journey in Jordan visiting the country’s key sites and enjoying the JiJ Team’s amazing hospitality and local knowledge. The organization of the trip was outstanding and we visited many places not on our itinerary, enjoying great food and wine on the way. It was a truly luxury all-inclusive holiday. What a great time we had. Many thanks to Islam, Jonathan, and Oliver.

Excellent hosts and guides with in-depth historical and local knowledge. I visited amazing ancient sites in Jordan and experienced fantastic kindness from its people. The food and wines were delicious throughout the trip. After a week, I have a much deeper understanding of Jordan and the region. Meticulous planning and attention to detail. Fascinating and very worthwhile.

I enjoyed a wonderful visit to Jordan with JiJ. I have never been so well looked after and was overwhelmed by the terrific hospitality and friendliness of all the people I met. The rooms I was given were superb, as were the different meals I enjoyed. I was surprised by how much Jordan has to offer - from Roman cities to ancient Judaeo-Christian sites, and from spectacular desert scenery to sun drenched beaches and luxurious spas. There is something for everyone in Jordan. I highly recommend JiJ and would not visit again unless it was with them. They looked after me, without compromise, from start to finish. Many thanks to the great team! I look forward to a return visit soon.

Visited Jordan from Doha. We had a fabulous time and our JiJ hosts were wonderful. The climate is perfect and the country is full of history. Jordan is at the crossroads of culture in the Middle East and has a Levantine spirit. One of the most enjoyable holidays ever. Here am I with one of our JiJ hosts in the Roman Theatre, Amman. We love that the trip was fully inclusive and that it was Adults only.
